President and CEO, The Boston Foundation
Paul S. Grogan serves as president and CEO of the The Boston Foundation. With assets of over $1 billion, The Boston Foundation distributed over $112 million to nonprofits in 2015. Grogan joined the Foundation from Harvard University, where he was Vice President for Government, Community, and Public Affairs. In 2001, Grogan co-founded “CEOs for Cities,” a civic innovation lab and network of urban leaders and change agents from diverse sectors. Prior to 1998, he was president and CEO of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), where he raised and invested over $3 billion in inner cities across America. His passion for cities began in Boston working in the administrations of Mayors Kevin White and Raymond Flynn. He headed Boston’s neighborhood revitalization efforts in the 1980s, where he helped pioneer a series of public/private ventures that have been emulated nationally. Grogan graduated with honors from Williams College, earned a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and was awarded a Bicentennial Medal in 1997 from Williams College. He holds honorary degrees from The Boston Architectural College, The Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, and Mount Ida College. He is a founder and director of The Community Development Trust, a director of New Profit Inc., a trustee of Brandeis University, and a former trustee of Williams College and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. He is co-author with Tony Proscio of the book, Comeback Cities.
