David Abel

Filmmaker

David Abel is an award-winning reporter with The Boston Globe, a documentary filmmaker, and an occasional professor of journalism. He has covered war in the Balkans, unrest in Latin America, national security issues in Washington D.C., and climate change and poverty issues in New England. Abel and his colleagues won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News for their coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings. Abel now covers environmental issues at the Globe, and he has written extensively about New England and the region’s fishing industry, especially the demise of cod in the Gulf of Maine. Abel was a director and producer of Sacred Cod, and is currently working on a new film about the Everglades.
